DONAPAULA:: India today stands as a centre of excellence and a hotspot of golden opportunities, said Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, urging the nation to place renewed faith in Indic thought, tradition, and intellectual heritage.
“In ancient times, institutions like Nalanda and Takshashila attracted scholars from across the world. Knowledge flowed both ways—it was a global exchange. We must continue that spirit today: absorb what is good from anywhere, and proudly share what is ours.”
The Vice President emphasized that while embracing global knowledge, India must resist the mindset that the West is the sole origin of modernity. “The belief that everything valuable must come from the West is misplaced. Much of what the world seeks today already exists within us.”
Citing luminaries like Aryabhatta, Bodhayan, and Varahamihira, he reminded that India’s contributions to mathematics, astronomy, and science predate many global achievements. “Varahamihira had an observatory in Ujjain long before the Mughal era,” he noted.
Calling out a cultural inferiority complex, he said, “Sections of our society still regard ancient Indian knowledge as regressive. That trait has no place in modern India. The world already recognises our value—it’s time we do the same.”
“The West is far behind us in many respects. Even in their own minds, they’re now learning from us. Greater awareness of India’s intellectual treasures will stun the world,” he concluded.
