New Delhi: India will face Afghanistan in a three match T20I series in September, with all three games scheduled to take place at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi.
The series will begin on September 13, followed by the second T20I on September 15 and the final match on September 17. Each game is scheduled to start at 7 pm.
The Afghanistan Cricket Board and the Board of Control for Cricket in India have confirmed that the series forms part of Afghanistan’s Future Tours Programme. Although Afghanistan will be the designated host, the matches will be played in India, continuing the arrangement under which Afghanistan has staged home fixtures in the country in recent years.
India and Afghanistan most recently met in T20I cricket during the 2024 T20 World Cup. India secured a 47 run victory in their Super Eight encounter in Bridgetown on June 20, 2024.
The two teams have faced each other nine times in T20Is. India have won seven matches outright, while another encounter was decided in India’s favour after a rare double Super Over finish.
Their only other match without a winner came during the Asian Games 2022 gold medal contest, which was abandoned because of rain in Hangzhou in October 2023.
The upcoming series will provide both teams with an opportunity to assess their squads and build momentum ahead of major international assignments. With all three matches being played at the same venue, conditions will remain consistent throughout the series.
The September schedule also gives Indian players another opportunity to adapt to T20 conditions ahead of the busy international calendar.
