New Delhi: RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat on Thursday said that India possesses the values and vision needed to offer solutions to a world struggling with conflicts, social divisions and environmental challenges. However, he cautioned that the country’s lack of preparedness is preventing it from fully realising its aspiration of becoming a “Vishwaguru”.
Speaking at the closing ceremony of an RSS volunteer training camp in Nagpur, attended by industrialist Kumar Mangalam Birla, Bhagwat stressed that while India’s global moment has arrived, success will depend on how effectively the nation prepares itself for the responsibility.
He noted that discussions about India becoming a Vishwaguru have continued for years, but emphasised that the goal cannot be achieved through aspiration alone. According to him, the country must build its capabilities and strengthen its foundations before it can assume a larger leadership role on the global stage.
Referring to ongoing tensions in West Asia, Bhagwat highlighted how conflicts in one part of the world can affect nations far beyond the immediate region. He pointed to rising oil prices as an example of how global instability impacts everyday life in India. In this context, he argued that economic strength and national prosperity are essential, as international influence is often determined by power and capability.
Bhagwat said the world faces persistent dilemmas involving individual rights, social welfare and environmental protection. He observed that efforts to advance economic growth frequently come at the expense of nature, while strict environmental safeguards are often viewed as obstacles to development. According to him, many countries remain unable to find a balanced path between these competing priorities.
He maintained that India’s civilisational values and spiritual traditions offer a framework that can help reconcile such conflicts. Bhagwat said the world is increasingly searching for an alternative model and believes India has the potential to provide that direction.
The RSS chief also warned that forces opposed to India’s rise may attempt to create divisions and social unrest. He called for unity and preparedness, saying the nation must strengthen its values, institutions and collective resolve if it is to fulfil its larger global role.
