PANAJI: Since 2017, the priorities of this government has been strange. The government has been dependent on cosmetic changes rather than permanent solutions to many issues.
While teh State government has no money to repair the roads or hot-mix them, it has spent a whopping Rs 13 crore on the beautification of teh already beautiful Miramar beach in Panaji city.
Miramar Beach, which attracts hordes of tourists and locals alike, has seen a Rs 13 crore makeover, with the inauguration by CM yesterday.
The four-phase beautification project under the Smart City mission is being undertaken at the cost of around Rs 13 crore.
Beautification of the Beach Front Promenade at Miramar Beach under the AMRUT Mission was formally inaugurated by the Chief Minister of Goa Dr. Pramod Sawant in the presence of Urban Development Minister Milind Naik, Hon’ble Mayor of Panaji Rohit Monserrate and other Corporators of the CCP.
“A commendable work done by Imagine Panaji Smart City Development Corporation Ltd to make sure that the beautification was completed in record time.
I urge all the citizens of Panaji and the tourists to Judiciously use all the facilities provided here and keep the place clean and green,” said Panaji MLA Babush Monseratte.
Earlier, the first phase was inaugurated with new playing facilities for children that have been installed, the garden has also been renovated as part of the Smart City project. Several other beautification projects under the Smart City were planned but were held up due to bureaucratic hurdles.
IPSCDL says Panaji being the capital city, there is a growing demand for smart solutions to basic needs like accessible roads and footpaths, drinking water, electricity and hanging cable-free roads. IPSCDL is a special purpose vehicle or a company that has been set up to implement the Smart City Mission in the capital.
It may be recalled that the promenade along the Miramar beach had broken benches and footpaths that were blocked or disintegrated. Parking was also a major issue along this popular beach with vehicles being lined up haphazardly across the roads. The project was first taken up under the Atal Mission for rejuvenation and transformation, where the Miramar beach beautification project was taken up.
