VELIM: Velim MLA Cruz Silva on Monday began a series of consultations with elected village panchayat members and residents across the constituency to discuss the government’s notification on Non-Developable Areas (NDA) and gather public feedback.
The first round of meetings was held with the Village Panchayats of Velim and Chinchinim, where panchayat members and affected residents raised concerns and sought clarification on various aspects of the notification.
Silva said the consultations are aimed at understanding the concerns of landowners, assessing the likely impact of the notification on villages and individual properties, and preparing a collective response based on public opinion.
He said every affected citizen should have an opportunity to express their views before any further action is taken.
“As public representatives, it is our responsibility to listen to the people and safeguard their legitimate interests. The notification has raised several questions among landowners and residents, and these concerns deserve to be heard through a transparent process,” Silva said.
The MLA informed that meetings will be held with all eight village panchayats in the Velim constituency during the week. The consultation programme includes the panchayats of Velim, Sarzora, Assolna, Ambelim, Chinchinim, Sirlim-Dramapur and São José de Areal.
Alongside the consultations, the MLA’s office has started collecting written objections, representations and suggestions from affected residents. These will be compiled and submitted to the Town and Country Planning (TCP) Department as part of the public consultation process.
Silva said that after completing the consultations and reviewing the feedback received from the public, a comprehensive strategy and further course of action would be decided in consultation with the people.
He appealed to affected landowners and residents to participate in the meetings and submit their objections within the prescribed period so that their concerns can be formally placed before the government.
