PANAJI: The third edition of the International Purple Fest – Goa 2025 began with a vibrant and inspiring opening ceremony at the Entertainment Society of Goa, bringing together participants, dignitaries, and performers from across India and the world. Organized by the Department for Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities and the Office of the State Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities, in collaboration with the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment and the United Nations India, the festival showcases the spirit of inclusion, equality, and empowerment.
The inaugural event was graced by Goa Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant, Union Ministers Dr. Virendra Kumar and Dr. Ramdas Athawale, Minister of State Shripad Naik, and UN Resident Coordinator Mr. Shombi Sharp, among other dignitaries. Dr. Sawant called Purple Fest “a celebration of diversity, determination, and extraordinary talent,” emphasizing the festival’s role in creating a society where everyone can shine, regardless of ability.
Highlighting the achievements of participants, Dr. Athawale and Dr. Kumar praised their talent, courage, and confidence, noting that inclusion goes beyond accessibility—it is about giving individuals the opportunity to excel. Minister Subhash Phal Desai emphasized that inclusion is a shared responsibility, reflecting justice, dignity, and empowerment.
Day 1 also hosted the International Convention on the Deaf, advocating for Indian Sign Language recognition and exploring AI-based accessibility solutions, along with the All-India State Commissioners’ Meet 2025, focusing on child rights, digital accessibility, and legal enforcement.
Three Purple Fest Ambassadors shared inspiring stories of overcoming challenges. Grish Dongre highlighted the need for awareness and support for sickle cell patients; Sandya Bandholar spoke on deaf empowerment, while Dr. Aditya Lohiya stressed implementing disability policies effectively.
Day 2 will feature the Global Inclusive Teachers’ Summit, Purple Pragati Corporate Seminar, sports events like Boccia Federation Cup and Unified Basketball, and Purple Fun activities such as parasailing and drum circles. The festival continues to celebrate inclusion, creativity, and empowerment, reinforcing a vision of a society where every ability is valued, and every individual thrives.
