Panaji: The Imagine Panaji Smart City Development Limited (IPSCDL) has successfully completed the Bituminous Concrete (BC) surfacing work across all three phases of the road improvement project under the Smart City Mission. This completion marks a significant milestone in the transformation of Central Panaji’s core road infrastructure. The project, spanning a total of 6,850 meters, was executed with meticulous precision, including the installation of the Dense Bituminous Macadam (DBM) layer, which has been settled and rectified, all without any major road closures, ensuring minimal disruption to the public.
The roadwork was executed in three structured phases over a span of three months. Phase 1 covered 735 meters and included MG Road from St. Inez Junction to Caculo Island (185 meters), MG Road from Caculo Island to Don Bosco School (275 meters), and SV Road from Geeta Bakery to DB Road Junction (275 meters). Phase 2, covering 1,024 meters, included MG Road from Don Bosco to UCO Bank (354 meters), TB Cunha Road from Café Bhonsle to DB Road Junction (320 meters), 18 June Road from NGPDA Office to Caculo Island (140 meters), Cunha Rivera Road from Vinanti to DB Road Junction (40 meters), and MG Road from Liberty to Vinanti Restaurant (170 meters). Finally, Phase 3 covered 1,415 meters, including MG Road from UCO Bank to Don Bosco School (380 meters), Market to DB Road (200 meters), Geeta Bakery to INOX (534 meters), Tom Liquor Shop to DB Road (200 meters), and two internal lanes (100 meters).
Looking ahead, the next steps of the project include road painting and traffic signage installation, scheduled to run from April 1 to May 31, 2025. This phase will focus on improving traffic management and pedestrian safety. Additionally, a landscaping and tree plantation drive will take place from June 1 to June 30, 2025, to enhance urban greenery and ecological balance. Special care will be taken to ensure higher survival rates of the newly planted trees using climate-resilient techniques and regular monitoring.
Progress is also being made on St. Inez Road, where 3,000 meters of concrete roadwork are nearing completion. The crucial sewerage line connection from Taad Maad to the Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) has been successfully executed, clearing the way for the final stages of the road surfacing. To further improve local traffic flow and connectivity, several roads near Café Bhonsle Square have been completed, including Antao De Noronha Road (70 meters), an adjacent road near Chai Corner (30 meters), and the adjoining road to TB Cunha Road (60 meters).
“We are pleased to report substantial progress across key project areas, including road surfacing, signage, and utility integration,” said Mr. Sanjit Rodrigues, Managing Director & CEO of IPSCDL. “Our teams have worked diligently to ensure quality execution with minimal disruption to public life. As we approach the final stages, our focus remains on timely delivery, sustainable landscaping, and long-term urban resilience. We are confident that these efforts will significantly improve mobility, safety, and the overall urban experience in Panaji.”
