Panaji: Imagine Panaji Smart City Development Limited has clarified that recent reports linking fish mortality at Mala Lake to Smart City works are misleading and not based on facts.
In a statement issued on April 16, IPSCDL said that while extensive efforts have been undertaken under the Smart Cities Mission to upgrade sewerage infrastructure across Panaji and adjoining areas, enforcement, monitoring of pollution sources, and prevention of illegal discharge fall under the jurisdiction of concerned line departments.
The agency further stated that sewerage-related works in the area have been executed by the Public Works Department Goa under the Smart Cities Mission framework, based on requirements and in coordination with relevant authorities.
Clarifying its role, IPSCDL said it has not undertaken any specific development works at Mala Lake, and therefore any direct attribution of the fish mortality incident to Smart City projects is factually incorrect.
The corporation reiterated that attempts to associate the incident with Smart City works are unfounded and misleading. It added that it remains committed to planned and sustainable urban development and will continue to work in coordination with concerned departments to ensure long-term benefits for citizens of Panaji.
