CANACONA: With no signs of Hot-mixing or Black-topping of roads damaged during the extended monsoon rains in sight, the last hope of a Jet-Patcher has come handy to rescue even the village interior roads in Canacona.
‘Most of our roads are damaged during the extended monsoons, however, though most of these roads particularly our village interior roads are pending for execution of repair and black-topping, nothing seems to be moving in the right direction to execute these works. We are in December now, and people are rightly getting restless’, informed Agonda Sarpanch Preettal Fernandes.
With many residents keeping high hopes on her, Preettal however, have been working overtime, to minimise residents growing complaints, and not once and twice but the sarpanch could convince and successfully carried out potholes ridden road repairs by pressing JetPatcher in the service on Agonda roads. Beginning, with the badly mutilated Panchayat road, the Jetpatcher repaired the entire MDR road passing through Agonda village, the village interior main beach road, and now at Sarpanch directions, the jetpatcher has turned to other interior and badly potholes infested roads of the village.
Incidentally, its not only potholes but the entire tar- carpets itself have disappeared making most of the interior roads to disappear. ‘Its hard to repair the badly damaged roads by jetpatcher, as Jetpatcher is supposed to only fill-up the potholes, but most of the roads in village interiors need repairs in entirety. A Jetpatcher can carry materials sufficient to repair a maximum of 25 metres of road length, and with most of the roads needing patch works of over 10-15 metres at every length, material gets exhausted within an hour, making the task of attending the potholes ridden roads a very different preposition. But still we are doing our bit to get the maximum roads repaired by whatever services PWD (roads) are extending to us. We, however, urgently need an allotment of tenders and work orders to the road repair proposals submitted though the panchayat to the PWD, and begin these works on an immediate basis.’
Incidentally, while the Jetpatcher is requisitioned and provided its services in most of the areas of Canacona taluka on numerous occasions, it visited Agonda alone on more than a dozen times now, in the last two months, and still many roads continue to reel under the extended monsoon impacts.
