MORMUGAO: A jeweller from Headland Sada has been booked by Mormugao Police for allegedly failing to return pledged gold ornaments worth around ₹30 lakh despite the complainant repaying a substantial portion of a gold loan.
The complaint was lodged by Bhagyashree Mesta, a resident of Headland Sada, who alleged that on June 5, 2025, she and her relative pledged approximately 224 grams of gold ornaments with PBC Jewellers, owned by Bhimappa Chalwadi, and obtained a gold loan.
According to the complaint, between January and April 2026, she repaid ₹16.90 lakh through UPI transactions and by mortgaging old gold ornaments. However, despite the repayments, the accused allegedly failed to return the pledged ornaments belonging to her and her relative.
The complainant alleged that the jeweller’s actions caused her wrongful loss and amounted to criminal breach of trust.
Based on the complaint, Mormugao Police have registered a case against Bhimappa Chalwadi under Sections 316(5) and 318(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Further investigation is being carried out by PSI Suraj Naik under the supervision of PI Sheriff Jacques and the guidance of Mormugao DySP Gurudas Kadam.
