MARGAO: The South Goa Sessions Court on Friday sentenced a man from Jharkhand to life imprisonment for murdering his wife at a stone crusher site in Sao Jose de Areal in 2021.
Sessions Judge Sherin Paul pronounced the sentence against Gulshan Tirkey and also directed him to pay a fine of Rs 1 lakh. In case of non-payment, he will have to undergo additional imprisonment.
Public Prosecutor Sanjay Samant said the crime occurred on November 4, 2021, when Tirkey fatally stabbed his wife at their makeshift residence on the worksite.
Both the accused and the victim were employed as labourers at the location.
The prosecution examined 15 witnesses, including the investigating officer, to support the case.
