VASCO: In what could be a perfect example of Justice delayed but not denied, a Velsao resident Domingoes Goes, on Friday, finally won a long battle that took some legal courses to finally get motorable access to his house.
The access to the house of Goes was blocked by a laterite stone belonging to a neighbour, but based on an order by Mormugao Dy Collector Bhagwant Karmali, the stones were removed for police protection.
While there was some chaos involved, and even as an advocate of the neighbour approached the site to stop the work, the works were completed, and access was made available.
Speaking to the media, Mormugao Dy Collector Bhagwant Karmali said that the state commission for disability had passed an order in the month of April 2023, and works had been executed on Friday.
Speaking to the media later, Physically Disabled rights activist Avelino Dsa said there was misinformation by the advocate of the other party.
“The party has recorded on the news channel that this property does not belong to him and that he had not placed stones here. There is no dispute in this matter, and works are being cleared to provide motorable access after allegedly the neighbour had blocked the traditional access to the house of Goes, who is a person with a disability, and this was done three years ago. We had got the road cleared through CRZ, but the neighbour then put stones on the pathway, which is now being cleared now through the Dy collector after Goes visited the Mormugao Dy Collector and State Disability commissioner,” said DSa.
Domingoes Goes said that he had struggled for over three years to get access to his house at Velsao.
“I am happy that finally, I have got Justice. I was earning my livelihood earlier by riding a three-wheeler and doing fishing business but with the road blocked, I had to stop the work. My wife had to go to work, and I almost went into depression and I had a tough time. ” Said Goes
Another special educator and activist, Liby Mendonca thanked the authorities for having cleared access to the house of Goes,” he said.
“He had a tough time, and he had to go through family issues which forced him to get his wife to work. Sometimes they had to face extreme situations with no food on the table and without a livelihood. Finally, God has showered him with his blessings, and the traditional access to his house has been cleared after a long fight of over three years,” said Mendonca.
