NADORA: The 38-year-old Juve-Nandora bridge, built in 1987, is in an alarming state of disrepair, raising serious safety concerns for locals. Cracks have appeared along its structure, the slabs are sinking, and the bridge’s metal framework is deteriorating, making it highly unsafe for commuters.
Recognizing the imminent danger, villagers, along with the Nadora panchayat members, including the Sarpanch and Deputy Sarpanch, have called for immediate intervention by Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and MLA Nilkanth Halarnkar. The bridge, which serves as the only connection between Juve and Nandora, is now closed to four-wheelers. Authorities have also put up warning signs, advising two-wheeler riders and pedestrians to cross at their own risk.
A major concern among locals is the water pipeline that runs along the bridge. If the structure collapses, it could severely impact the water supply to the village, leading to an additional crisis. Residents also point out the dire situation during medical emergencies, as ambulances cannot reach the village due to the lack of an alternative route.
Villagers have been demanding a new, stronger bridge that can support both two-wheelers and four-wheelers, ensuring safer and smoother connectivity. With no immediate action taken so far, frustration is mounting among the locals, who have urged the government to inspect the site and sanction a reconstruction project before disaster strikes.
The Nadora panchayat, along with concerned citizens, is now planning to escalate their demands, warning of protests if authorities fail to address the issue urgently. With the monsoon season approaching, the risk of collapse increases, making it imperative for the government to act swiftly to prevent a potential catastrophe.
