PANAJI: Power Minister Sudin Dhavalikar said that Karnataka needs to consider the Tamnar Power project positively while stating that even if the neighbouring State does not clear it, the Tamnar infrastructure built in Goa will not go to waste but rather will be integrated into the intra-state grid which will help immensely.
“Karnataka needs to view the project positively,” Dhavalikar stated, noting that even if the neighbouring State rejects it, the Goan-built Tamnar infrastructure will be integrated into the intra-State grid and will be of great assistance,” said Dhavalikar.
He further stated that the Tamnar project has almost 90% of its work finished, with the remaining 10% to be finished in the coming months.
“We aim to complete the remaining project facilities by the end of August,” Dhavalikar stated, recommending that Karnataka take a favourable view of the project.
The transmission line must pass through the Kali and Dandeli tiger reserves, which is why the Karnataka government has not approved the project within its jurisdiction.
According to Dhavalikar, there is already a historic power transmission line that runs between Supe and Ponda via Anmod, and the Supreme Court has approved the Tamnar line that runs parallel to it through Karnataka with little to no harm.
The power minister stated that Goa’s peak load demand this year exceeded 820 MW, and future projections indicate the State will require an additional 300–400 MW, even though the Tamnar project has the potential to bring in a supply of up to 1,200 MW.
