PANAJI: An assistant professor at Goa University has been charged by a social activist of taking exam papers in order to enable a “special” student get good grades.
Together with a number of other activists, activist Kashinath Shetye filed a complaint at the Agassaim police station, calling for the professor to face harsh consequences.
Sources claim that a second-year postgraduate student has been close friends with the accused professor since their college days. In order to make sure the student received high marks on a prior test, the professor allegedly shared exam question materials.
Other faculty members apparently spotted the malfeasance and carried out an internal investigation. The situation was quietly resolved as a result of university authorities’ decision to just issue a warning rather than pursue harsh measures in spite of their concerns.
Shetye has now brought up the matter with the police, joined by social activists Mariano Ferrao, Ramchandra Manjrekar, John Nazareth, Premindra Vernekar, Krishna Pandit, and Inacio Pereira.
Shetye has threatened to raise the situation to the North Goa Superintendent of Police if nothing is done within the next 24 hours. He plans to move the court if no answer is received.
