PONDA: After several road accidents, Kavlem locals have demanded setting up Gaushala( Cattleshed) for stray cattle.
Locals said the stray cattle population has been increasing, and they are often seen sitting on the main road posing a threat to motorists.
Several times, cattle are the main cause of accidents.
Animal lover Sanket Narvekar said today he received a call about a young calf being injured after being hit by a loaded goods rickshaw at Donkhamb Kapileshwarim turn. The calf’s limbs were fractured in the accident.
He said Government should look into the stray cattle problem on humanitarian grounds and provide shelter to them and take their care with the help of local Panchayats.
He said he often receives calls for stray cattle accidents.
A few months back, the bike riders hit one cow on the same road at Paunwada, wherein bike riders were injured, and the cow was killed on the spot.
He said all vehicle owners must be aware that cattle sits on the main road in villages and Ponda City, and hence they should drive carefully to save their own lives and that of stray cattle.
