PANAJI: Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant said the Goa government has not taken any fresh loans between April and July of the current financial year, highlighting the state’s prudent financial management.
Addressing a public function, the Chief Minister said the government has instead repaid nearly ₹600 crore in loans that were borrowed around a decade ago. He added that although the state is eligible to borrow up to ₹4,000 crore, it has deliberately chosen not to avail any fresh loans during the period.
Dr. Sawant said the government’s approach reflects its commitment to maintaining financial discipline while ensuring that development projects and welfare initiatives continue without placing an additional debt burden on the state.
The Chief Minister also announced the expansion of the Kamdhenu Scheme to provide greater support to dairy farmers. Under the revised scheme, financial assistance will now be extended for up to 20 cows.
He said the first 10 cows will continue to receive a 90 per cent subsidy, while the next 10 cows will be eligible for a 75 per cent subsidy. The enhanced scheme is expected to encourage dairy farmers to expand their livestock and increase milk production in the state.
Dr. Sawant said the revised Kamdhenu Scheme is aimed at strengthening Goa’s dairy sector, improving farmers’ incomes, and promoting self-reliance in milk production while continuing the government’s focus on rural development and agricultural growth.
