PANAJI: Opposition leaders in Goa have criticised the state government following the firing incident involving Casino Group director Srinivas Nayak in Porvorim, alleging that the incident reflects a serious deterioration in law and order.
RGP MLA Viresh Borkar visited the Majestic Paradise premises and took stock of the situation. Borkar said a possible revenge motive could be behind the attack and alleged that the firing appeared to have been planned.
Borkar questioned how such an incident could take place in a prime area like Porvorim and claimed it reflected the alleged collapse of law and order in Goa.
GPCC chief Girish Chodankar pointed out that the firing reportedly took place just metres from the Porvorim police station. He questioned how safe ordinary citizens could feel if armed assailants could allegedly open fire in the vicinity of a police station.
GPCC Working President Sunil Kawthankar also hit out at the government, alleging that criminals had become emboldened enough to carry out a gun attack near senior police establishments. He linked the incident to what he described as widespread corruption and a deteriorating law-and-order situation.
Congress leader Amit Palekar too criticised the BJP-led government, warning that Goa could be heading towards a situation similar to Mirzapur. He said the state’s law-and-order situation had reached its lowest point.
