PANAJI: Panaji Police have registered a case against a Kerala-based driver for allegedly driving rashly and negligently, resulting in a road accident that left a woman seriously injured near the entrance of the New Mandovi Bridge.
According to police, the offence was registered on June 18 at 10.58 pm based on a complaint lodged by Jose Gomes, a resident of Candelariawada, Verem-Mansher, Pilerne, Bardez.
The complainant alleged that on June 12 at around 4.30 pm, the accused, identified as Thulsidas M., a resident of Palad, Kerala, was driving a white Bolero vehicle bearing registration number KL-17-R-4444 from Porvorim towards Panaji.
Police said that when the vehicle reached near the entrance of the New Mandovi Bridge, an area designated as a no-entry zone, the accused allegedly drove the vehicle in a rash and negligent manner and collided head-on with a Splendor motorcycle bearing registration number GA-01-H-6883 belonging to the complainant.
As a result of the collision, Jose Gomes sustained bodily injuries, while his wife, Maria L.R. Rodrigues, who was travelling as a pillion rider, suffered grievous injuries, police said.
Based on the complaint, Panaji Police have registered an offence against the accused driver under the relevant provisions of law.
Further investigation is being carried out by HC Samir Naik (Buckle No. 5108) of Panaji Police Station.
