PONDA: Khandepar locals demand action against sand extraction at the Khandepar river, which is downstream at around 200 meters away from the old Khandepar bridge.
Locals said there is sand mining near Pandava caves at Khandepar, which is a heritage site. Locals said sand mining poses a risk to the Pandava caves.
Due to sand extraction on a large scale, there is soil erosion on the Bank of the river, and danger has been caused to houses at the bank of the river poses a high risk, and also to Pandava caves which are at the bank of the river.
The locals demand suitable action on matters. Locals also said a suction pump is used for extraction and that several truckload is extracted daily basis. This would create a significant impact on the local environment.
