PANAJI: The agitation by villagers of Kharapur-Sarvan in Bicholim against the proposed luxury township mega project has entered its 150th day, with Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao urging the government to initiate dialogue with the affected residents.
Raising the issue during Zero Hour, Alemao said the villagers had been forced to continue their protest for the past 150 days due to what he described as the government’s failure to address their concerns.
Alemao said the protest stems from apprehensions over the project’s potential impact on the local ecology, water resources, village demography, traffic infrastructure, livelihoods and the character of the surrounding villages.
He urged Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, along with the Ministers for Town and Country Planning and Panchayats, to engage directly with the affected villagers and find a solution to the issues raised by them.
Responding to Alemao, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant assured the House that he would meet the Karapur-Sarvan villagers on Thursday and hold discussions with them on their concerns.
Alemao stressed that local residents, particularly weaker sections of society, should not be left vulnerable to the impact of large-scale real estate developments and called for meaningful government intervention.
