PANAJI: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Wednesday said that YouTuber and self-styled spiritual speaker Gautam Khattar remains untraceable, as Goa Police intensify efforts to track him down.
A special team has been deployed to Dehradun, Uttarakhand, in a bid to locate Khattar, who has been absconding since a case was registered against him. Addressing the media after the Cabinet meeting, Sawant said authorities are treating the matter with utmost seriousness and are closely monitoring developments.
“Khattar is currently untraceable. Goa Police teams are already in Dehradun to track him. Once located, he will be arrested and brought to Goa. I and the DGP are continuously monitoring the situation,” the Chief Minister stated.
Khattar is facing multiple charges for allegedly making objectionable remarks about St. Francis Xavier and delivering statements that could disrupt communal harmony. The case, initially registered by Vasco Police on Sunday, was transferred to the Crime Branch on Tuesday following multiple complaints.
The controversy erupted after an event in Vasco during the ‘Bhagwan Parshuram Janmotsav’ last Saturday, where Khattar allegedly made offensive remarks against the revered saint.
Protests have since intensified across Goa, with citizens demanding his immediate arrest, a public apology, and a ban on his entry into the state.
