PONDA: Upset with the poor and worst road conditions in Kundaim Industrial Estate, the furious workers of several companies today protested at Kundaim Industrial Estate and warned to stage major Rasta Roko agitation if the road is not restored immediately after the code of conduct is lifted in next few days.
Several other workers gathered on Friday evening to attract the attention of concerned authorities.
Nasir Sheikh said for the past one, and a half years, they have been demanding to repair and restore the damaged portion of the 7 km Industrial road, on account of which workers travelling through vehicles’ bikes suffer, and the heavily loaded vehicles also find very difficult to negotiate the road.
The workers said several workers were injured, and besides injuries on account of falling through a bike, they also spent money on repairs of vehicles.
The officials in various companies also said that because driving through the worst road, vehicle parts such as Shock observers and Suspension get damaged and are forced to spend thousands of money.
The workers said, citing the election Code of conduct in force, the hot mix carpeting of the Industrial road is delayed.
“Recently, we saw the construction of special helipad roads for VIPs. How the code of conduct did not apply to them,” questioned workers adding, “Why no roads for Industrial workers who are Aam Admi suffering due to negligence of authorities.”
The workers said they are fed up with travelling at least 52 times in month through the worst affected road in Industries.
They also demanded proper roadside drainage and trimming of grown-up trees, which risks lives.
Deputy General Manager of IDC Mukund Kaisuvkar said tender has been already issued; however, as the code of conduct is in force, the work is delayed.
“As soon as the code of conduct is lifted, the IDC will begin the hot mix carpeting of road,” he said.
When asked whether IDC asked for relaxation of code for road construction, he said they filed an application, but Election Commission did not give permission. He also said around Rs 2.5 Crore rent is due to IDC by various Industries at Kundaim Industrial Estate. The fund crunch has also delayed the work.
