PERNEM: Residents of Pernem Taluka have been on edge lately due to an increase in the frequency of leopard sightings in the area. There are rumours that the large cats are killing dogs and cows, which has the community worried for their safety as well as the safety of their animals.
A few days ago, residents of Deulwada Palyem were alarmed and took quick action after seeing a leopard in the area. The local Panch Shiva Tilve promptly notified the forest department of the sighting, which prompted the forest officials to erect a cage nearby.
Residents’ anxiety is growing as a result of this incident, which follows a similar sighting in Virnoda last month. Locals are calling on authorities to act swiftly to reduce the risk to humans and animals after reports of leopards invading villages.
One resident voiced concerns, speaking under anonymity, saying, “It’s alarming that there are leopards in our villages. We worry about our kids and our animals’ safety. In order to prevent any regrettable incidents, the forest department needs to act quickly to address this problem.”
