PANAJI: Libania Cagers, Margao and Loyola have secured their places in the boys’ final of the Group Priority State Sub Junior Basketball Championship 2026, while DBSA Fatorda and St. Mary’s GHS will battle for the girls’ title.
Libania Cagers edged DBSA Fatorda 23 19 in a thrilling semi final that went into overtime. Libania found themselves trailing at different stages but mounted a strong comeback to force extra time. They then produced a decisive 6 2 run in overtime to seal the win.
The match remained tightly contested throughout, with the quarter scores reading 5 2, 2 3, 3 8 and 7 4 before Libania took control in extra time. Deshawn was the top scorer for Libania with 11 points, while Aarav Dessai led DBSA Fatorda with 10 points. Quninton Costa added five.
Loyola, meanwhile, produced the most dominant performance of the boys’ semi finals, defeating Lourdes Basketball Club 43 0. Adriel Rosario starred with 27 points, while Kurt D’Silva contributed 10.
In the girls’ semi finals, DBSA Fatorda defeated The Sunshine Worldwide 28 18 to earn a place in the final. Eva Mascarenhas led the way with 20 points, with Jaezel Barreto adding eight. Alya Shaikh and Kiara Mendonca scored seven and five points respectively for Sunshine.
St. Mary’s GHS completed the girls’ final lineup with a 20 0 victory over Unplugged Achievers B, Aldona. Cheryl Carrasco and Riya Singh contributed six points each for the winners.
The championship is being organised by Aliens Basketeers in association with the Goa Basketball Association at Don Bosco Oratory, Panjim.
