PONDA: In a shocking incident, a line helper working on the main transformer at Sapna town in Ponda fell off the transformer, injuring him critically.
As per information, Line helper Siddesh Naik a resident of Caranzal Madkai working on the main transformer was electrocuted and another co-worker pushed him immediately to cut off contact with a live wire.
Siddesh Naik was admitted to Ponda Sub District Hospital in critical condition and later was shifted to Goa Medical College (GMC).
The accident has brought to the fore the issue of the safety of linemen working under dangerous conditions.
According to reports, five linemen tragically perished in 2023 from electrocution. The government has been charged with paying lip service to linemen’s safety and providing the deceased’s family with meagre compensation each time.
There have been repeated calls for high-tension powerline repairs to be made safe for the linemen, but it doesn’t seem like anything has changed.
