CALANGUTE: Calangute MLA Michael Lobo has expressed concern over the number of trees being cut in the name of development.
“There is serious destruction happening to the environment as several trees have been cut to build concrete structures,” said Calangute Lobo.
Lobo was speaking to reporters after inspecting a more than 200 years old Banyan Tree which was uprooted by the Builder for self-benefit at Khobravaddo, Calangute.
Condemning the act of the developer for destroying the more than 200-year-old banyan tree, the Calangute Constituency Forum (CCF) requested the concerned authority to initiate strict action against the developer.
Locals had also blamed a real estate developer for the mighty fall of the national tree as the developer had been carrying out excavation at the site.
