CANACONA: Following strong public objections and negative exposure in the media has put the Sarpanch on the backfoot, Loliem – Polem Sarpanch on Tuesday canceled the Gram Sabha meeting scheduled for 4th February.
In a public notice issued on Tuesday (30-01-2024), Loliem Polem Sarpanch Nisha Chari cancelled the Gram Sabha meeting of Loliem-Polem panchayat fixed on 4th February at 10.00 am. ‘The next date of the Gramsabha will be declared shortly’, says the two-line cancellation notice signed by Sarpanch, and copy of which is endorsed only to Block Development Officer, Canacona, while Notice-Letter is put up on Panchayat Notice-board for the information of the public/gramsabha members.
Following the VP Loliem-Polem Gramsabha Notice signed by Sarpanch on 27-01-2024 but made public only on Monday (29-01-2024), villagers (gramsabha members) particularly who are also Components of Loliem-Polem Communidade cried foul raising suspicion on fixing of Gramsabha to coincide with the Communidade’s Extrordinary GB Meeting already fixed date and time.
While Gramsabha members suspected hidden agenda, others saw it as a game plan to deny attendance to either of the two important meetings being held on the same day and same time in the village with unknown and suspicious plans against the villagers; Some approached VP Loliem-Polem Sarpanch and Secretary, while Canacona BDO was also appraised on Monday itself for cancellation of the notice but to no avail.
The panchayat received a lots of negative drubbing when a media highlighted the issue went viral in various social media platforms, putting the sarpanch on the backfoot, finally forced to issue the Cancellation notice at afternoon time, cancelling Sundays (04-01-2024) Gram Sabha. Sources further pointed out that Next date of Gramsabha is likely to be decided only after the outcome of the Communidade Extra ordinary GB meeting.
