New Delhi: India’s smartphone exports climbed to a record $9.84 billion during the first quarter of the 2026-27 financial year, driven by strong global demand for Made in India iPhones and continued growth in the country’s electronics manufacturing sector.
During the April to June quarter, smartphone exports increased 23.4 percent from $7.97 billion recorded in the same period last year. The United States remained the largest destination for India’s smartphone shipments, reflecting sustained demand for devices manufactured in the country.
The impressive performance also boosted India’s overall electronics exports, which stood at $15.2 billion during the quarter. Smartphones alone contributed 64.8 percent of total electronics exports, highlighting their growing importance in India’s export basket.
The latest figures build on the strong momentum witnessed over the past few years. In 2025, shipments of Made in India smartphones grew by 8 percent, largely driven by a 28 percent increase in exports. Overseas shipments accounted for nearly one third of all smartphones manufactured in the country, underlining India’s emergence as a major global production hub.
Apple’s manufacturing partners continued to lead this expansion. Foxconn Hon Hai recorded a 48 percent year on year increase in exports during 2025, supported by robust iPhone production and international demand. Samsung also expanded its export footprint, registering 4 percent growth during the same period.
Earlier this year, India’s iPhone exports reached a record ₹2 lakh crore in the 2025-26 financial year, making Apple the country’s largest branded exporter across all product categories. Overall smartphone exports during the fiscal year stood at around ₹2.6 trillion, with iPhones contributing more than 75 percent of the total export value.
The rapid growth has been supported by the government’s Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme, reforms in Special Economic Zones, increased investment in electronics manufacturing, and recent foreign direct investment policy changes. These measures have strengthened India’s position as a key global manufacturing and export hub for smartphones.
