BENAULIM: Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, during his visit to Goa, met traditional fisherman Pele at Benaulim Beach and heard the concerns of the local fishing community regarding their livelihood.
During the interaction, Pele thanked Shinde for the influx of tourists from Mumbai, stating that their visits had helped sustain traditional fishermen over the past year. He also appealed for relaxation measures from the Central Government that would support the fishing community while ensuring the interests of traditional fishermen remain protected.
Responding to the appeal, Shinde assured the fishermen that he would take up the matter with Goa Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant and discuss possible measures to address their concerns.
The interaction highlighted the challenges faced by traditional fishermen and the importance of balancing livelihood support with policies aimed at safeguarding the interests of local fishing communities.
