CORTALIM: A road accident at Birla Cross Junction, Cortalim, in the early hours of August 23 left three persons injured after a Mahindra XUV allegedly collided with an Ertiga car and subsequently hit a traffic signal pole before overturning.
According to a state complaint filed by HC 5767 Sudeshkumar Desai of Verna Police Station, the incident occurred at around 5.15 am. The accused driver, identified as Savio Fernandes of Navelim, Salcete, was allegedly driving the Mahindra XUV in a rash and negligent manner while proceeding from Dabolim towards Margao.
Police said that upon reaching Birla Cross Junction, Cortalim, the XUV allegedly crossed the highway without taking proper care and precautions. An Ertiga car travelling from Panaji towards Margao then collided with the Mahindra XUV.
Following the collision, the Mahindra XUV allegedly dashed against a traffic signal pole and overturned.
The occupants of the XUV, identified as Adora Naomi Fernandes and Debra Fernandes, both residents of Fatorda, Margao, along with the driver Savio Fernandes, sustained injuries in the accident.
Further investigation is being conducted by HC 5767 Sudeshkumar Desai of Verna Police Station.
