PANAJI: Goa Forward Party (GFP) today has submitted a memorandum to the Department of Fisheries demanding to make the Konkani language mandatory for posts.
“It has not been specified which of the local languages is required. Para 4 does not make it mandatory for the candidate to be a local. By implication, anyone from the neighbouring States may also be eligible for the jobs. It may be noted that the Fisheries Department of other states has explicitly mentioned the name of their local language for the mentioned posts,” the letter states.
GFP said that in comparison to Goa, the other States have stated that the candidate must be a local of the village, neighbouring village or at least the district as the Sagar Mitra.
“They have also stated that the candidate must declare that they must be willing to stay in the village they will be working in. This is to ensure that the Sagar Mitras can spend an extensive amount of time in the fishing villages,” it states.
The party said that the eligibility criteria for Sagar Mitra posts in Goa give sufficient scope for candidates from neighbouring States or any other State for these posts and be selected for the job.
“the intention of the Government is to people from other states, it may be clarified to the public. If not, the recruitment rules for the advertisement may be corrected by specifying Konkani is the local language in the advertisement along with 15-year domicile in Goa as a mandatory requirement,” it says.
