VASCO: Vasco MLA Krishna Salkar, along with students of St Joseph’s Primary School, Vasco, celebrated Van Mahotsav on Tuesday morning with a tree plantation drive at the school’s Sports Annexe Ground in Baina.
Salkar, accompanied by his wife and Mormugao councillor Shami Salkar, planted saplings alongside the young students and interacted with them, encouraging each child to plant a tree on their birthday and nurture it as a symbol of their own growth.
“It was a delightful morning spent with the enthusiastic students of St Joseph’s International School, Vasco, as we marked Van Mahotsav with a meaningful activity. It was heartening to witness the children’s keen interest in environmental protection,” said Salkar.
During the interaction, Salkar spoke to the children about Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’, encouraging everyone to plant a tree in honour of their mother and for the welfare of the environment.
“There’s something deeply fulfilling about getting your hands muddy alongside such enthusiastic children. These are the moments that give us hope about the future generation’s commitment to the environment,” he added.
Salkar also congratulated the school’s teachers and parents for organising the initiative and praised the effort to instill environmental consciousness in young minds.
Also present at the event was Asha Keny, Manager of St Joseph’s Institute (Primary and Pre-Primary).
