CALANGUTE: Calangute Police have arrested a man for allegedly luring a 23-year-old woman from Uttar Pradesh to Goa on the false promise of providing her with a job before allegedly raping, confining and threatening her.
According to police, the woman alleged that after arriving in Goa, the accused took her to a room where he raped her against her will, wrongfully confined her, and threatened to kill her if she attempted to leave.
Police said an FIR was registered on July 12, 2026, based on the woman’s complaint. The accused was arrested on July 13, 2026, after following the guidelines laid down by the Supreme Court.
Calangute Police have also refuted the complainant’s allegations that police refused to register her complaint, merely recorded her statement, and later dropped her at the airport.
According to police, these allegations are false and baseless, stating that the FIR had already been registered on the basis of the complainant’s statement before the accused was arrested.
