PERNEM: Pernem Police have arrested a 25-year-old man for allegedly stabbing a woman multiple times with a knife at Tuem on Monday evening, in an attack reportedly arising out of previous enmity over the ending of a relationship.
The accused, identified as Gautam Devidas of Deulwada, Corgao, was arrested at 11.14 pm on July 7, just hours after the incident. Police said all Supreme Court guidelines were followed during the arrest.
According to the complaint lodged by the victim’s brother, the accused allegedly intercepted the 25-year-old woman near the gate of the Old Community Health Centre (CHC), Tuem, at around 4.30 pm while she was returning home. He allegedly assaulted her with a knife, stabbing her on the back, chest and hand with the intention to kill, causing serious bleeding injuries.
Pernem Police registered an offence under Sections 109 and 126(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
During the investigation, police recovered the alleged weapon used in the crime, an Aprilia scooter bearing registration number GA-11-F-4917, and other articles under panchanama.
Further investigation is being carried out by PSI Vivek Halarnkar under the supervision of PI Nitin Halarnkar, SDPO Sridevi B.V., and SP (North) Harish Madkaikar.
