VALPOI: Valpoi Police have arrested a 36-year-old man for allegedly assaulting a civilian, attacking a police constable on duty, and obstructing police personnel from performing their lawful duties near Maria Bar in Valpoi on the night of June 20.
According to the complaint filed by Police Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Namdev Mahadev Gawas of SPCR Panaji, the accused, identified as Sunil Gajanan Madkaikar of Chimbel, Tiswadi, initially assaulted Lakhpat Singh using a vehicle key and also punched him, causing bleeding injuries to his head and back.
Police said that when a PCR team comprising ASI Gawas, Head Constable Oli Khan and driver ASI Gango Kharwat arrived at the scene to attend the emergency call, the accused allegedly became aggressive and assaulted HC Oli Khan by repeatedly slapping and punching him on the face and nose, resulting in injuries.
The accused also allegedly abused the police personnel in filthy language, obstructed them from carrying out their official duties and threatened them with dire consequences, including death threats.
Based on the complaint, Valpoi Police registered Crime No. 28/2026 under Sections 118(1), 132, 121(1), 352 and 351(3) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023.
The accused has been arrested, and further investigation is in progress.
