CANDOLIM: Calangute Police have registered a case against a man for allegedly depositing 13 counterfeit ₹500 currency notes into a Cash Deposit Machine (CDM) at HDFC Bank’s Candolim branch.
According to the complaint by Manish Rege, 46, Branch Manager of HDFC Bank’s Candolim branch, an application enquiry was conducted following the incident reported to have occurred on August 19, 2026. The exact time of the alleged incident was not known.
The accused has been identified as Shibapati Patra, a resident of Candolim, Bardez. Police said Patra allegedly used 13 counterfeit ₹500 notes and deposited them into the bank’s CDM while presenting them as genuine currency notes.
The complaint was received on August 25, 2026, at around 11:19 am.
Further investigation is in progress and is being conducted by PSI Yogesh L. Mandrekar of Calangute Police Station.
