PANAJI: Panaji Police have registered a gambling case against a 37-year-old man who was allegedly caught accepting matka bets from members of the public in an open public place near Gandharv Bar and Restaurant in Panaji.
According to police, the offence was registered on June 2 at 9.08 pm based on a complaint lodged by Head Constable Babu Madanwar of Panaji Police Station. The accused has been identified as Chandrakant Sidram Talawar (37), a resident of Bhatlem, Panaji, originally from Sindagi in Karnataka’s Bijapur district.
Police said that at around 7.30 pm on June 2, the accused was caught red-handed while accepting money bets on numerical digital numbers, a game of chance commonly associated with matka gambling.
During the operation, police seized cash amounting to Rs 1,350 in different denominations along with other gambling-related articles from his possession.
Further investigation is being carried out by Head Constable Babu Madanwar of Panaji Police Station.
