MAINA: Maina Curtorim Police have registered a cyber fraud case after a Nuvem resident was allegedly cheated of ₹1.85 lakh by a fraudster posing as a State Bank of India (SBI) customer care executive.
According to police, the complaint was filed by Sunil Kumar Bind (39), a resident of Nuvem, Salcete. The complainant stated that on April 20, 2026, at around 1.48 am, he searched Google for an SBI customer care number to verify details of a previous bank transaction.
Soon after, an unknown person contacted him from a suspected mobile number and introduced himself as an SBI staff member. The caller allegedly convinced the complainant to download an APK file on the pretext of checking transaction details.
After downloading the file, the complainant was allegedly defrauded of ₹1,85,000, which was transferred from his account without his knowledge or consent.
Police have registered an offence against the unknown accused for cheating and cyber fraud. Further investigation is being carried out by PSI Ashutosh Naik of Maina Curtorim Police Station.
