OLD GOA: Old Goa Police have booked and apprehended a 51-year-old man for allegedly operating an illegal matka betting activity near St. Cruz Church, Tiswadi.
According to a complaint filed on behalf of the State by PSI Manohar N. Dhulapkar of Old Goa Police Station, the accused, Shankar Bhikaji Gawas (51), a businessman residing near Church, St. Cruz, Tiswadi, Goa, was caught red-handed at around 4:00 p.m. on June 9 while allegedly accepting bets from members of the public.
Police stated that the accused was accepting money and issuing paper slips containing numerical figures used for betting. During the operation, officers seized ₹1,050 in cash from his possession, comprising one ₹500 note, one ₹100 note, seven ₹50 notes, and ten ₹10 notes, along with other gambling-related articles.
The case has been registered based on the State complaint, and further investigation is being carried out by PSI Manohar N. Dhulapkar of Old Goa Police Station.
