CALANGUTE: A 26-year-old man from Madhya Pradesh was arrested by Calangute Police after he was allegedly found in possession of an illegal country-made pistol and two live rounds of ammunition during a raid near the helipad at Sinquerim, Candolim, in the early hours of July 9.
The accused has been identified as Ajit Kumar Rai, son of Maneesh Rai, a resident of Damoh district, Madhya Pradesh.
According to police, the raid was conducted between 2.01 am and 3.07 am, during which officers recovered a locally made pistol, commonly known as a katta, along with two unfired rounds of ammunition from the accused’s Dio scooter (GA-03-AU-1931).
As the accused failed to produce any legal documents authorising possession of the firearm, police arrested him at 5.01 am after following the prescribed legal procedure.
Calangute Police have registered a case under the Arms Act. Further investigation is being conducted by PSI Yogesh L. Mandrekar.
