MARCEL: A resident of Tivrem, Marcel, lost ₹1.8 lakh after allegedly falling victim to a cyber fraud involving a fake credit card reward points redemption scheme.
According to Mardol Police, complainant Krishna Naik reported that on July 8, 2026, at around 2 p.m., he received a phone call from an unknown person posing as an Axis Bank employee.
The caller informed him that his credit card reward points could be redeemed and convinced him to complete the process online.
Believing the caller to be genuine, the complainant visited a fake website as instructed, entered his credit card details and approved a bank verification request.
Soon afterwards, he discovered that an unauthorised transaction of ₹1,80,000 had been carried out from his credit card without his knowledge.
Based on the complaint, Mardol Police have registered a case against the unknown accused for allegedly cheating the complainant through an online banking fraud.
