BICHOLIM: FIR has been filed against the management of Goa Steels Ltd in the multiple blast in furnace case at Bicholim Factory on May 9.
The management has been booked for endangering human life and compromising on the safety of staff.
The explosions rocked the walls of the homes at 500-meter-distance Hill View Colony, shocking the nearby residents. A few reported that they believed there had been an earthquake.
An eyewitness reported that four blasts were heard. Our home shook. Another Hill View Colony resident stated, “We felt the earthquake occurred. We thought it was an earthquake.” Our house has a slab, but it still vibrated.
“We rushed out and saw there was fire everywhere,” the resident stated. The lights were off. I had previously filed at least ten complaints, but not a single one had been addressed.
According to Bicholim Fire Services, the call came in at 7:10 p.m. They said the iron furnace caught fire. Only one firefighter arrived on scene in a flash and put out the fire. Four firemen needed an hour and ten minutes to put out the fire.
The specifics of the estimated loss have not been disclosed by the factory owner. Under the supervision of Rahul R. Desai, the station fire officer, four firefighters, two drivers, and a head constable conducted the operation.
