PANAJI: The Captain of Ports Department has issued a river traffic advisory for vessels operating on the Mandovi River in view of kayak races scheduled as part of the International Tourism Celebration on September 20.
The directions will apply from 2 pm to 6 pm to all barges and boats operating in the stretch between the newly constructed Ribandar Jetty and the Mandovi Bridge.
Vessel operators have been instructed to maintain a sharp lookout for the racing kayaks and proceed at a reduced speed while the event is underway.
The department has also directed vessels to stop at a safe distance whenever necessary to ensure that the races are not obstructed or disrupted.
Operators have been asked to strictly follow instructions issued on the spot by patrol boats deployed in the area during the event.
The advisory is aimed at ensuring safe coordination between regular river traffic and participants in the kayak races during the four-hour event window.
