MOPA: With a 26.6 percent rise in passenger foot traffic and a 22.7 percent increase in aircraft traffic movement over the previous year, Manohar International Airport (MIA) in Mopa achieved record flight operations in 2024.
When travelers from throughout the nation came to the state to celebrate New Year’s Eve, the airport handled an incredible 14,000 passengers on December 30 and another 15,000 on December 31, according to MIA sources on Friday.
In 2024, the airport handled 47.16 lakh passengers, of whom 2.47 lakh came from abroad and 44.69 lakh were from internal flights.
The airport handled 37.26 lakh passengers in 2023, of whom 36.67 lakh were domestic travelers and the remainder were foreign visitors.
Mopa witnessed 31,916 flights arrive and depart in 2024, including 30,295 domestic and 1,621 international flights, as a result of multiple foreign airlines setting their shop there. There were 26,013 flights in 2023, with 25,593 being domestic and 420 being foreign.
MIA, which was put into service on January 5, 2023, is currently pursuing phase II of its expansion strategy, which aims to boost the airline’s capacity from 4.4 million passengers to 7.7 million travelers.
At the moment, the airport serves all domestic carriers, including Indigo, Akasa Airways, Air India, Spicejet and FLY91.
The airport serves scheduled international flights operated by Aeroflot, Uzbekistan Airways, Air Arabia, Qatar Airways, Oman Air, and Air India, in addition to international charter flights operated by TUI and Enter Air.
Through a concessionaire deal, the state government and GMR Infrastructure have partnered to build the state’s second international airport.
