MAPUSA: Mapusa Police have registered a case of alleged cheating and criminal breach of trust after a Mapusa resident claimed she was duped of ₹16.89 lakh by a woman who allegedly failed to repay money taken from her.
According to the complaint lodged by Mrs. Madhavi Kiran Shetgaonkar, a resident of Mahadev Nagar, Khorlim, Mapusa, the accused, identified as Joshna Deepak Sharmalkar of Carona, Aldona, allegedly induced her to part with money by assuring that the amount would be repaid.
Believing the assurance, the complainant transferred a total of ₹16,89,145 through multiple transactions. However, despite repeated promises, the accused allegedly failed to return the money, resulting in wrongful loss to the complainant.
Based on the complaint, Mapusa Police have registered an offence against the accused for alleged cheating and criminal breach of trust. Further investigation is being carried out by PSI D. Pandit.
