MARCEL: A resident of Marcel has allegedly lost more than ₹2 lakh after falling victim to a fake e-challan cyber fraud.
According to a complaint lodged by Vaibhav Bhagat, a resident of Ganpatiwada, Candola, Marcel, the incident occurred between 8.16 pm and 9.38 pm on July 2.
Police said the complainant received a message regarding an alleged e-challan. Believing it to be genuine, he clicked on the link provided in the message, which downloaded an application onto his mobile phone.
The complainant then entered his credit card details to pay the purported e-challan amount. Although the payment failed with a message stating there was a bank server error, he later discovered that multiple unauthorised transactions amounting to ₹2,01,250 had been carried out using his credit card.
Mardol Police have taken up the investigation, which is being conducted by PSI Nitesh Kankonkar.
