Margao: A Suzuki Access scooter was deliberately set ablaze in the early hours of July 18 near Coreia Complex, Borda, Margao, causing damages estimated at ₹50,000. The accused, later identified as Anand Kumar Babu, a resident of Margao, was found to be mentally unstable and has since been admitted to the Institute of Psychiatry and Human Behaviour (IPHB), Bambolim.
The incident was reported by Prasan Kumar Samal, a resident of Borda, who stated that the fire occurred around 4:30 a.m. and completely damaged his scooter. A case was registered, and an investigation was promptly initiated by PSI Satvashil Devidas of Fatorda Police Station.
Following investigation, Anand Kumar Babu was detained in connection with the offence. He was referred to South Goa District Hospital (SGDH), Margao, where the attending medical officer declared him mentally unsound.
Subsequently, the police obtained an order from the Hon’ble Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC), Margao, for his admission to IPHB, Bambolim, for further psychiatric evaluation and treatment.
Further inquiry into the case is underway under the supervision of Fatorda Police.
