MERCES: Residents of Chimbel and Merces are increasingly frustrated by the deteriorating condition of local roads, which have become a nightmare for both riders and pillion passengers. Potholes have proliferated, making daily commutes treacherous and raising concerns about safety.
Local residents report that the roads have remained neglected for several months, causing significant inconvenience for daily commuters. One resident, who wished to remain anonymous, expressed exasperation, stating, “The roads are left unattended for far too long. It’s a huge inconvenience for everyone who travels in and out of the village.”
The situation has been exacerbated by ongoing construction diversions, further complicating access for those living in and around the village. Many are calling on the government to prioritize repairs and address the urgent need for road maintenance.
St. Cruz MLA Rodolfo Fernandes acknowledged the challenges posed by the weather, which has delayed the start of much-needed road repairs. “We intended to begin hot mixing last Friday, but heavy rains halted our progress,” he explained. “If we attempt to work in wet conditions, the roads will deteriorate even faster.”
Fernandes assured residents that the hot mixing process would commence as soon as weather conditions permit. “We are closely monitoring the situation and have been in contact with the engineer responsible for the project,” he said. “By Monday, we hope to finalize orders to proceed, and we aim to have all roads in my constituency revitalized by the end of November.”
