PANAJI: The Goa government’s request for a joint inspection to examine the Mhadei river basin has been approved by the Mhadei Progressive River Authority for Water & Harmony (PRAWAH).
Nonetheless, it has requested that the three states Goa, Karnataka, and Maharashtra communicate the dates for the inspection, depending on their availability.
Subhash Shirodkar, the Minister of Water Resources (WRD), announced that the State had received a communication from PRAWAH two days prior, in which they had decided to jointly inspect the Mhadei river basin.
“We had written to the Authority last month, demanding a joint inspection at Kankumbi, where the neighbouring State had taken up work to divert the flow of monsoonal water of the Mhadei river towards the Kalasa, following the commencement of work by Karnataka,” the man stated.
“Two days back we got a communication from PRAWAH that it has written to the members of all three States — Goa, Karnataka and Maharashtra — to give a date for conducting a joint inspection to study the Mhadei river basin,” Shirodkar said.
The Minister said that the State will be writing to the Authority, recommending dates like April 15, 17, 20 and 22 for the conduct of the inspection. He said that Goa will be represented by the Secretary and Chief Engineer WRD for the site inspection.
“We are not going to wait for the elections to get over. Elections has nothing to do with it,” he added.
